PSSD - Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction

Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction refers to a collection of persistent sexual side effects that can occur after discontinuing selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) or other antidepressants, even after they have been stopped for an extended period.

The symptoms of PSSD vary but often include:

  • Reduced or no libido / sexual desire
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Anorgasmia (difficulty achieving orgasm)
  • Diminished genital sensitivity
  • Delayed ejaculation
  • Reduced sexual pleasure
  • Emotional numbness or detachment from sexual experiences

These symptoms can persist for months or even years after the discontinuation of the drug, and they can be distressing for many people, affecting both their sexual well-being and mental health.

The exact cause of PSSD isn’t fully understood. Limited studies on treatment are yet to reveal treatment pathways. However, I have been seeing great results with the few people I have worked with who have been diagnosed with or suspect PSSD including return of sexual functioning and desire.
